The Lift the Ban campaign brings together more than 300 charities, trade unions, businesses, faith groups and other organisations to call on the Government to give people seeking asylum the right to work six months after they have claimed asylum. This would enable them to use their skills, contribute to their communities, to live with dignity, build their lives and contribute to the UK economy.

Fight For Asylum Rights: Blueprint to fix the asylum system

More than 200 organisations sent a letter to the new Prime Minister sharing a clear blueprint to fix our broken asylum system. The letter was sent to Andy Burnham on his first day in the job, It’s wonderful to bring so many voices together to offer real, concrete solutions. The Communities Not Camps campaign is calling on the Government to house people seeking asylum in safe, suitable accommodation within communities, rather than in military barracks, camps and other institutional sites. Campaigners are opposing the use and expansion of camp-style accommodation, highlighting the harmful and isolating conditions people can experience and the risks these sites can create for both people seeking asylum and local communities. The campaign is calling for existing camps, including those at Crowborough and Wethersfield, to close and for people seeking safety to be welcomed as neighbours, with the dignity, stability and support that comes from living in communities.
