Befriending

Befriending is when a volunteer befriender (trained by Restore) and a befriendee (a refugee or asylum seeker who know Restore) meet together.

We will try to find someone who likes similar things as you.

A Restore staff member organises a meeting to  introduce the volunteer befriender and the befriendee (refugee or asylum seeker).

You can then meet every two weeks in a public location for at least six months.

We link men with men and women with women.

You can learn about each other’s cultures, practice speaking English, visit new places and ask any questions about life in the UK.

Group Social Activities

Not everyone can have a befriender, due to limited numbers of volunteers, so we also run group activities where you can meet people and practise English.

Group social activities are FREE, fun activities that take place every two weeks.

We meet in Birmingham City Centre.

There are separate activities for men, women and families.

We visit different places in Birmingham and practice English through worksheets and conversations with English speaking volunteers.

Previous activities have included Blakesley Hall, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Aston Villa Stadium, craft activities, ceilidh dancing and walks in the countryside or along canals.

In school holidays, we organise family activities.

To join, please use the form below so we can add you to our group to tell you when the group social activities will be.
